MARY ALICE CORTON

composer

The last of eight children in a musical family, Mary Alice Corton, (a.k.a. “Malice”) is a film/television/media composer. It started when she was five years old - her mother and eldest brother brought home a beat up old piano to refurbish. She started playing and writing music from that point on - studying jazz/theory under Frank McGowan in Pittsburgh, PA, her hometown.

At the age of 14, she and a few neighborhood friends started a punk/alternative rock band (in which, she learned to play guitar and drums). Attending Penn State University, she studied under Burt Fenner to develop her composition skills using computer/midi applications.

She played in various bands in Pittsburgh, but in 1997, with the encouragement of a number of friends, decided to move out to Los Angeles to pursue her music career. When she got to LA, she performed as a guitarist/keyboardist/singer for various groups as well as solo, playing in venues as intimate as coffee houses all the way to national television (Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star).

On occasion she was asked to write music/songs for a movie or commercial or short film, but it wasn’t until after completing Music for the Media, a 2 year film composition course certification program designed by award winning British composer Guy Michelmore, that her career took a turn for the best.

She has completed numerous projects in film, television, commercials, corporate video and animation. (Click HERE to link to imdb page)
